As the new year approaches, many of us are thinking about health, mental health, and hope. It's difficult to know how to start, because all three of those categories are so subjective, but here are some suggestions.
Perspective
Look at your external environment.
What is happening to you?
What is the inner drive to overcome what is happening?
What is the motivational power of knowing that you’re enough?
Listen to your body.
Check your body for any leaks.
Check your self for any triggers.
Evaluate your behavior.
What did you do that triggered the anger?
What did someone else do that reminded you of your behavior?
What does your body look like when you’re calm down?
When you’re practicing, why?
Where?
What technique?
When working on yourself, what help would you seek?
Exercise
When working on yourself, what would you like to be doing?
How would you like to be helpful to others?
Relationships
Reflect on your behavior and how it fits into your social worldview.
What would you like your intimate life to look like?
Cooking
How do you like to cook?
Do you like to cook?
What techniques do you have that would help you gain insight on how to improve on this special moment in time?
Graduate
When you have something at hand that is of medium importance, graduations are sometimes required. They can be quite difficult when you have some cognizability, for example, a vacation from a large family or the joy of receiving a gift from a friend. Typically, about six to eight weeks go by before the next deadline, and the rest of the time you can do nothing.
On the purchasing side, many (perhaps more than usual) 2017 was affected because of COVID restrictions and trying to buy necessities has become a mixed-up medium.
Now is the time to take advantage of an ideal situation.
What is it that is rewarding you to buy essentials this year?
Essentials
General
This year, how do you want to use your time?
How would you like to be using your time?
Do you value yourself?
Personal
Do you enjoy yourself?
Spend a few minutes with a favorite at-leash friend.
What is something that would make you more confident, assertive, polite, or happy?
What is something that would make you less likely to show up for work later in the day?
Connect
See your friends regularly. Talk to them about your goals. Be kind to them. How have you been reaching out to those you care about? How would you like to be less lonely in 2021?
What is something that would make your life more enjoyable?
What is something that would make your work or life more enjoyable?
What is something that would make your work or life more predictable?
What is something that would make your life less stressful?
Do list at least three things you would like to accomplish this year.
Beyond your formal holiday preparations, this is a great time to look forward to things that you will accomplish this year, as well.
Things To Be Loved
Back to school for your children. Bring lunch for yourself and your neighbors. Teach your children a lesson about how to be kind and compassionate this holiday season.
Make your bed. Put a special item in your bed for the people who are closest to you. How will your loved ones be celebrating? Set a nonjudgmental agenda about what you want to gift them. Find ways to say thankful-you and nonjudgmentally attend events with your friends and family.
Try heading out to eat. It might be a secret that you’ve been keeping for a long time. Head out to a food truck near your workplace and order some of your favorite takeout foods from the humblest vendor. Try having the recipe in your hand. Take turns sipping your favorite drink. Reward yourself.
This year’s holiday spending can get pretty intense. But this year, as the people of Christmas begin posting their most outlandish decorations, not many of the decorations will be likely to be more than a throwaway. Throw them away along with the rest of your paraphernalia. I know I’ll be back.
