Self-compassion is compassion for yourself and others that is displayed through self-kindness, compassion, and empathy. These three characteristics help us know ourselves, help others, and create compassion for ourselves and others.
When we start to observe self-compassion and self-kindness, we then become easily influenced and start to get common cause with others. Furthermore, we can bring common cause to others, as long as they are already on board with our perspective.
While It’s important to have compassion, it’s also important to know how to cultivate self-compassion. This is similar to the way of cultivating wisdom.)
Here are three steps:
1. Pay attention to your feelings
Picking up the feelings you have about being sad, depressed, or disappointed is an important part of self-compassion. Try to come back to them with greater interest and kindness.
2. Ask others for support
When you’re feeling sad, frustrated, or unappreciated, it’s important to reach out to those that love and care for you and offer them support. Reach out to those who have developed their own resilience.
3. Help others
Giving is also part of self-compassion. Helping others, whether through online groups, camapsacks, or anonymous donors is a positive act.
As you could probably guess, but I added the “3” to the list above.
Giving is also part of self-compassion. By giving, you are practicing self-compassion. I also recommend that you journal about your experiences and put your self-compassion into practice as a practice. Afterward, you can continue to practice self-compassion.
Through these methods, you can train yourself to be kind to others and self-compassion is a vital skill for helping others.
